Here is one such fancy top in Zebra stripes, which features a one-side off-shoulder.

13.Full-Length Cardigans:
Adding a Cardigan to your wardrobe serves many purposes. You can use it to layer your outfit or stay warm in colder weather. Such garments hide the width of your body, making you appear smaller. Also, choose shrugs that are open in the front and do not have buttons to avoid that stuffy feeling. Shrugs of asymmetrical length look pleasing on plus-sized women as compared to even length coats.
- Occasion: Workwear, Casual Outings
- Style Tip: Add a statement neckpiece under an open cardigan to get the glam-girl look.
14.Try Falling Necks:
No Dearies, we want you to do overtly exposed, but then a little peek in well-maintained cleavage from a swoop neck or buttoned shirt never hurts, also collar bones look great through a falling neck, and it acts as a great distraction to draw the attention away from other parts of your body. Avoid wearing boat necks as, again, they emphasize the width and instead choose the right neckline for your body type.
- Occasion: Casual, Everyday Wear
- Style Tip: Accessorise a plain top with funky jewellery.
15.Mid Length Skirts/ Dresses:
If you have bigger thighs, go for mid-knee length skirts rather than mini skirts. This is the area where your leg width is the minimum. This really helps to disguise your thighs and draws attention towards the relatively thinner areas of your legs. While choosing your dress, go for a mid or high rise waistline to cover up your tummy. Invest in a good pair of shoes to stay sophisticated.
- Occasion: Office Wear, Formal Gatherings
- Style Tip: Wear it with a vertically striped shirt and tuck it in.
16.Simple Tops for Bust Heavy:
If you have a heavier breast and want to draw attention away from it, wear fluidic clothing free from frills and embellishments. The thumb rule is to keep the bustline free from heaviness and stay as neat as possible. Wear funky trousers, printed leggings and boots to divert the attention to your relatively leaner waistline, hips and legs.
- Occasion: Night Parties, Evening Gatherings
- Style Tip: Footwear plays an important role in these outfits. So be sure to get them right.
17.Twist Front Dress:
As the name suggests, this dress has a pre-stitched twisted knot in the front to give a tighter-looking dress. This also makes your belly appear flattered as layers of fabric in the front act as good camouflage. This is a good strategy, especially while looking for attires suited for women on the plus side.
- Occasion: Date nights, Evening Parties
- Style Tip: Opt for a sleek hairstyle to match the theme of the outfit.
18.Empire Waist Dress:
This type of waistline hides your belly bulge and makes you appear more petite than you actually are; follow the mid-knee length rule. Such dresses accentuate the bust region. A good option for apple and pear-shaped body types. The maximum fit/ tailoring of such dresses is below the bust level rather than on the waist proper. Do pick an outfit in darker colours for an illusionary slimmer feel.
- Occasion: Cocktail Events
- Style Tip: Ditch the necklace and wear statement earrings instead.
19.Maxi Dresses:
These dresses have a length reaching a little above the ankle, below the knees. Mostly they have a fitting that is neither figure-hugging nor too baggy. You can add a little definition at waist level by adding a belt. Alternatively, a plunging neckline would draw attention to your neck and withdraw attention from the waistline, hips and thighs. Be sure to choose a fabric like georgette or chiffon.
- Occasion: Date nights, Romantic dinners
- Style Tip: Wear a pair of high heels to look tall and walk with confidence.
20.Dark Hues of Trousers:
If you have heavy hips and waistline, it would be more appropriate for you to choose trousers that are darker in colour and have a regular fit rather than a slim fit. Go for a regular waistline too and not low waist trousers. Darker colours tend to hide those heavy butt and thigh regions. Wear a belt in darker shades, too, so that the focus stays on your upper body while the bottom half of your body looks muted. You can wear a lighter-hued, pastel or neon coloured shirt/ top.
- Occasion: Office and Formal Meetings
- Style Tip: Invest in a fitting blazer to go along with this trouser.
21.Pick Your Patterns Wisely:
Dress with floral prints are great for the spring season and work remarkably well on big sized women. Choosing the right background colour and the print’s size is very important to achieve the desired look. If you are particularly fond of oversized florals, then keep the dress in a short length. For maxis, choose tiny prints for a beautiful look.
- Occasion: Day Outings, Casual Wear
- Style Tip: Get the vintage vibes by opting for side-swept hair with a flower tucked in.
22.Vertical Stripes:
If you are a fan of striped dresses/ formal shirts, go for vertical or diagonal stripes rather than horizontal stripes. Vertical stripes create an illusion of a leaner body and more height. Wearing horizontal stripes would widen your appearance and make you look stout. This trick can be applied while buying shirts, tops, trousers as well as one-piece dresses. Pair it with a solid top or tee for an elegant look.
- Occasion: Casual outings, College wear
- Style Tip: If you opted for a skinny fit legging, wear it with a solid coloured frilly top.
23.Ruched Fabric Waist Line:
To make your waistline appear somewhat constricted than it actually is, you can wear a dress with gathered fabric. This makes your waist look more sleek and slender. Also, go for a slightly broader neckline to highlight your assets and reveal your sensuous side. You can add a waist belt to get the right fit and achieve a perfect figure.
- Occasion: Vacation wear, Weekend Brunch
- Style Tip: Style your hair well and try a chiselled effect on your face with makeup.
24.Baggy Shirts:
These look cool with dark coloured trousers, denim and skater skirts. Clothing that is too tight can accentuate your flabs which appear rather unappealing. You definitely do not want to flaunt your love handles, do you? A baggy shirt, on the other hand, looks more pleasing on plus-sized women. However, be sure to pick the right size for the desired amount of fabric flowing on your body.
- Occasion: Casual outings
- Style Tip: Avoid wearing gaudy accessories on the neckline, as it can add to the heaviness.
Styling Tips For Over-sized Women:
In continuation to the above section, let us also discuss some style tips that taker your outfit game to the next level:
- Always try the dress before getting it home. Make sure that the fit is right and there are no spillages.
- Invest in good lingerie, which creates a tummy-tuck effect. These garments also give a good lift to your breasts and glorify your body.
- For a fitting look, try wearing a belt that is not too wide. You can go for adjustable ones that work for all sizes.

How to look 10lbs Slimmer in 10 Seconds?
Let me be crystal clear about this, there is no piece of clothing or quick fix diet that will literally take weight off your body in 10 seconds. The clothes you wear, however, and the way you wear them can make you look ten pounds slimmer in seconds which is what the Perfect Dress Company is all about.
When we were setting up the Perfect Dress Company, I interviewed top stylists and fashion bloggers to find out their secret slimming tips.
When I put these suggestions into practice, I immediately saw a difference in the way it made my body and shape look and I thought “WHY isn’t this information common knowledge?!”.
These tips work for all body shapes so grab a cocktail, go to your wardrobe, and pull out the items mentioned below that you have in your wardrobe and have a bit of fun playing dress up.
1.Wear a V-neck or Bardot Neckline
Both V-necks and Bardot necklines lengthen your neck and show off your collarbone, focusing on a slim part of your body. This is why we have launched two Bardot styles in our Secret Slimming Dresses collection – the Nip and Tuck and the Tummy Trimmer.
2.It’s all about the length!
The length of your dress is really important. When it comes to looking for a shorter dress, look for dresses which reaches just below the knee or on the knee. This is because the dress finishes at the slimmest part of your leg. If it hits you further down, you are at risk at making your calves look thicker than they are (and no one wants that!). When it comes to longer dresses such as maxi dresses you really want the dress to sit below your ankles. Anything above this level will focus on your ankle and because it is such as small area of leg, it may give the look of wide ankles aka ‘cankles’. If in doubt the longer the better but not to the point where you may trip over the hem… now that is just too far.
3.Bingo Wings
Unless you are Madonna or Michelle Obama bingo wings may be something that affect your confidence when wearing dresses.
For this reason – don’t wear cap sleeves. You might think cap-sleeve tops or dresses are a better alternative than sleeveless, but they hit you at the widest part of your arm thus highlighting this area. Try longer sleeves to the cuff, or ¾ length sleeves that elongate and streamline your arms whilst giving the illusion of slender toned arms. If you don’t want to wear a long sleeve during summer, try a flutter sleeve which finishes just past the widest part of your arms. The flutter adds movement and the length of the sleeve highlights the slender part of your arms. You can also try a cold-shoulder look which expose your shoulders, but still have sleeves to hide under-the-arm heaviness.
We encourage you to wear off-the-shoulder and Bardot tops with sleeves as every woman has sexy shoulders so make sure you show them off!
4.Go monochrome
Dressing in one colour head to toe is the easiest slim trick of all because it creates one long, clean line and doesn’t break your body up into separate visual parts. This one also makes you look taller! It’s great for us petite people, which is why we launched our first range dresses in a variety of block colours.
5.If in doubt buy a bigger size
Don’t wear clothes that don’t fit you – think stuffed sausage, it really just isn’t a good look! It causes rolls and bulges even on the slimmest of women. If you have to wiggle around in the dressing room to get it on, put it back on the rack. I know this one is actually really hard for some of us ladies. That dress size on a label can sometimes cause us not to buy an item of clothing as we don’t want to go into the next dress size bracket. Let’s be honest we can all be different dress sizes in different shops think Zara vs M&S – they have totally different sizing. You are more than a dress size, so rather than focusing on what dress size you are, focus on how that dress makes you feel.
6.Come over to the dark side
Darker colours will make you look instantly slimmer, whilst lighter or shiny colours/fabrics will highlight problem areas. So, if you have a wider waist, wear a brown or black belt. If you want to play down a large chest, avoid wearing a silver blouse.
7.Choose flattering fabrics
How a fabric works with your body and curves is so important.
These are things to check out for; does it cling uncomfortably to your body, does it restrict your movement, does it crease easily? If it does any of these things, don’t buy it. Look for fabrics that move with you, have added drape to offer tummy coverage, feel soft against the body and are comfortable to move around in.
8.Baggy is not a good look
This is a mistake a lot of people make when they have lost the confidence in their body shape. They wear big baggy clothes in order to cover up their body. As much as wearing baggier clothes may make you feel like you are wearing a security blanket and the world can’t see you, in actual fact it does the opposite as big shapes and baggier styles make you look bigger. Try this one for yourself, try on a baggier outfit that is loose and now try on a more fitted outfit and take a picture of yourself in both and compare side to side. See, what did I tell you?
9.Tailor your clothes
If you REALLY love a dress but you have tried on three different sizes and the dress just doesn’t fit you right, buy the bigger size and get it tailored to you and your body shape. You can’t expect every size 12 dress to fit every size 12 woman. I know this may seem excessive as this also adds the cost of the tailoring to the price of your dress, but I would only suggest you do this with an outfit that you are absolutely crazy about – you know, the ones you walk away from but just can’t stop thinking about.
10.Prints charming!
The next one is a game changer… Wait for it… The smaller the pattern, the smaller you look.
Think smaller prints, thin stripes, small polka dots, smaller charming patterns are what you should look out for when buying a dress with prints. This is another one you could try right now in front of the mirror. Try on a dress with a large pattern – take a snap with your phone and now try on a dress with a smaller pattern and compare side to side. You are welcome!
11.Get waisted!
Look for dresses that draw attention to your waist. This can be dresses which are nipped in at the waist, have included waist bands in the dress design that cinch in the waist, have ruching around the waist or have tie panels around the waist. This is because a dress that draws attention to your waist accentuates the smallest part of your body. But don’t worry, if a dress you have already doesn’t have any of the details above, just add a slim belt, it will help give your body a slimmer profile – just don’t over cinch – that is how muffin tops are born.
12.Tulips are a girl’s best friend
Forget roses and think tulips. The good news is a tulip shape dress is flattering for all body types. A tulip-shaped dress hides a multitude of sins and will slim and elongate a wide behind. It shapes the hips whilst defining the waist giving you a gorgeous hourglass look.
13.Wear undergarments that fit
This is crucial! Well-fitting underwear can change your shape and make you look up to 10lbs slimmer. Wearing the wrong size bra can create cutting lines that dig into your skin and cause your bust to spill out from the top as well as dig into your back which creates back flesh rolls that wouldn’t normally be there if you were wearing a bra that fitted well. Consider getting your bra size professionally measured at the women’s section of a department store. Wearing underwear too small for you can create bulges and panty lines which can be seen through dresses and other garments. Consider purchasing seamless underwear or think about going up a size so that it holds you in and isn’t on show – it’s called underwear for a reason!
Bottom Line
The most important thing for fat women actually is from the mindset. Appearance is not just a matter of body size, and physical beauty is not everything, but it all comes from feeling comfortable and confident when wearing it.
For those of you who still feel insecure because you are fat, try to find some references to women who are fat but still confident in dressing. This will help you find inspiration and believe that fat is not an obstacle to looking beautiful and attractive.
